Thickism: A New Dimension of Art

Outside of their work with the ZemmourBallet, Nicolas Zemmour and Marc Zemmour are engaged, as individual authors and creators, in the research and development of Thickism. Following their book Choreographic Creation Method, they are exploring this new artistic movement, which delves into the very depths of human experience through a distinctly personal approach.

Thickism, rooted in an ontological reflection, questions the nature of art beyond visible forms. It seeks to imbue each gesture, material, and emotion with heightened density, uncovering what lies beneath the surface of aesthetics. This movement diverges from contemporary art conventions, aspiring to a radical transformation of art’s essence. Here, each creation becomes a layering of moments and ideas—a dense, living fabric where each layer interacts with others to form a coherent whole.

While ZemmourBallet may align with this approach in the future, Thickism currently remains an independent exploration led by Nicolas and Marc Zemmour. The manifesto of Thickism, currently in progress, will capture this expanding artistic journey, where movements sediment like concretions, forming a living, evolving matter.

And you, artists?
If the prospect of an art that doesn’t stop at appearances but delves into the essence of human experience intrigues you, join us in this exploration. Interested artists are invited to participate in the working sessions that will begin in January 2025, both in-person and online, to contribute to building this new artistic movement. As spaces are limited, sign up here to explore Thickism alongside its founders.
